Phragmites Eradication Project

Phragmites australis (pronounced frag-MY-teez) is a non-native, invasive plant which has infested the Lake Michigan shoreline in Delta County in many places, replacing the native vegetation that native insects and animals depend on for food and habitat.
The Delta Conservation District has been awarded a grant from the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program to educate Delta County landowners about non-native phragmites and conduct management treatments.
If you are interested in having your property treated with grant funds, landowners are encouraged to contact our office for assistance in Phragmites identification, concerns and effects, control methods, permit use, the possibility of individual funding and/or contractor referrals.
If you require any additional assistance or have questions about the program, please contact Lori Mathews at:

Please help us monitor and detect new infestations in Delta County.  Join the Delta Conservation District Bay Watch Group; this team serves the purpose, much like a "Neighborhood Watch," of monitoring our beaches, shorelines and even inland properties for invasive Phragmites.  Email with the subject "BAY WATCH" for more information.
